You can find any kind of place in France. All depends on what you want to do.

Montains, Cities, See, Fine food, Extreme Sports, Castels, Natural Parks, .... whatever you want to do.

I'm French and can tell you where to go, depending on your objectives.

If you don't know now what to do, I suggest that you start of courses by Paris. So many variants and places can be visited afterwards. But Paris worth the trip itself.

Also, I would like to tell to the person, who mention that Paris was not so clean and not so safe, that he's right in some places and it is very nice in other places. I have been several times in US and it is the same. No need to go far away to find dirty/Unsafe or very clean places in New York, Chicago and any other cities in the World. Please don't make so easy generalisations.

yes i have been here for many years.......i truly love it ,
what impresses me the most ? is the architecture, the culture ,and most of all ,the many areas of food changes ,each region ,different foods , but still eat such magnificent foods , i love the atmosphere within the people, the little side-walk cafes people going on foot ,bus or train .
each region has a different theme to it and yet , you are still in France ,the seas :Mediterranean sea , north sea ,Atlantic and mountains are available,
the weather is not exactly alike in all regions, but still ,you have the fours seasons.want to go ski? not far and swimming ?same distance .....
to travel in France is so easy, for it is not a big country .i love the fact that you easily travel without owning a car.
so many other countries touch France ,in no time you are in an another world ,now with the European union, one euro ;
i also love the customs and traditions ,the modern life.
whether you are in a city or a village ? life is good in France ))
do know ,that i have lived in other countries as well .........

Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I've been there a few times and have enjoyed it. (gf has family there.)

A couple things that I have found...better to go in the sping than in the fall. I've found the people to be more friendly to tourists in the spring.

Try to speak French...it's VERY rude to go into another country and not try to communicate in their language. The metro has automated machines you can buy tickets from and they are in several languages - including English.

The food is OK...some places are better than others.

Because of the tourists, there is a problem with pick-pockets in tourist areas. Make sure your bag is always closed and keep your wits about you.

In general though, the people are great and the country is beautiful. If you go, make sure to go to Versailles...you could spend 2 or 3 days there as well!!! Also, I've found that D'Orsay is the best museum there.

The short answer is, yes, you should go.

I can't speak about every part of France, my knowledge is confined mainly to Paris, but it is a place that has enriched my life.

I first traveled to Paris when I was a young man of 25. That was almost 35 years ago. I have returned again and again, most recently just last March. I have already planned my next visit for September of next year.

Over the years I have visited most of the world's great cities and every continent except Antartica and no place is more appealing to me than Paris. Each time I return my first stop is in the Cathedral of Notre Dame to light a candle in thanks for the privilege of returning.

Paris is beautiful, filled with architecture that ranges from the ancient Roman to medieval to Beuax Artes to the avant garde.

Paris is filled with history from its days as a Roman colony to the dizzy heights as the de facto Capitol of Europe under rulers from Louis XIV to Napoleon I to its nadir under the heel of Nazi armies and its resurrection bathed in the blood of Resistance fighters.

Paris is the home of intellectual ferment, literary genius, great philosophers, and revolutions in art, fashion and architecture.

Paris is glorious food and drink. The first Cafe ever opened in France, the Cafe Procope, opened in 1686, still operates in the same location. Even the most humble cafe or little restaurant can dish up food that will astound and delight you.

But mainly Paris is an atittude, a city of romance and of light, a place of discovery, a place to just sit and delight in life.

So yes go. Go now. Go when you are young. See the her with new eyes. Make this marvelous place your own. She will live in your heart forever.

Like Josephine Baker, the American dancer, you may find that "J'ai deux amours mon pays et Paris", (I have two loves, my home and Paris.)

hi. I'm a Brit who now lives in France. The country is beautiful, the people friendly, but the red-tape involved with anything official drives me up the wall.
It took 2 years to get my English car re-registered to French plates. I get other peoples bills sent to me, and they get mine. and.............. What am I saying...If you just want to visit here, then it's great. I am in a region of southern France, the wine is good, the veiws from my window are breathtaking and I can relax.Rush hour is 3 cars on the road at the same time. OH ENGLAND, how I DONT miss you.

I won a trip from Domino's Pizza when I was fresh out of college and went to Paris for 3 days (another 3 days was in London). It was a little dirty in the streets but the people were friendly enough. Its a once in a lifetime opportunity to go overseas so I would go. Just be careful and make sure you are aware of your surroundings!
