Are you losing the connectivity from the computer or the ISP? Do you have a Modem and are the link lights on or off (and do they stay on when you try to connect). You need to start at the source and work to the computer to define the problem. First be sure of connectivity to your Modem or router -- If this is Okay then replace the cable (cheap and quick) if all is well to the computer it must be in the computer setting -- the best place to start is searching network connection problems and following the direction to investigate the problem. If you are using "cable" internet those thinks need to be reset all the time under certain circumstances (power everything down for 3 min. and start powering up from the source)

There's no physical reason for USB to be more reliable than Ethernet, though it does have a lower bandwidth than ethernet.

What do you mean by 'losing internet connection'?

The procedure to switch to USB is usually fairly simple, just plug the modem into the USB port and create a new connection using it. Might be an idea to disable the ethernet one.

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

If youre going for a USB connection. Your screen might prompt you the it detected a new hardware and then you would need to install the drivers that came from your modem/router so your laptop can recognized it and use that device.

maybe you just need to buy a new ethernet cable. Don't switch to USB, this requires changing the flow of data into something else and then changing it back. You can buy Ethernet cables off eBay for about £2 depending on length. Be sure not to get a crossover (x-over)

Are you sure it's the cable? if it is I'd just buy a new cable because that is what the ethernet port is for and would work best. I'd also try and find updated drivers or just reinstall the drivers for the ethernet port.

if your modem supports USB then it should be a case of plugging in the USB cable to the PC and modem and then rebooting both devices, you many not need to reboot but it would help.

If you don't have a USB port on your modem then you will need new hardware.
