Num Lock is the button you use if you want to use the number keys at the side of your keyboard. Press it once t activate them and once again to knock it off

Almost everyone gave the right answer but just to get two point: Num Lock =number lock. Other questions contain the detail so I don't think I need to write more.

Num Lock is a key on the numeric keypad of most keyboards, used to switch that pad between number entry and arrow keys. It is a toggle key, like Caps Lock and Scroll Lock. Its state is usually represented by a light on the keyboard.

and it is used for converting number pad at the keyboard from entering numbers to entering mouse coordinates .....

if NUM lock is off then you can use the number block to the right of your keyboard if it's on then you can't use it.

NUm lock is short for Number lock.

on a desktop keyboard it toggles the right hand side number keypad on and off, but on a laptop usually pressing shift + num lock will activate the number key pad that shares keys with your letter keys so that you can type numbers quicker than with the number line across the top.

its like the caps lock (locks on capital letters) num is number and it locks on the numbers so any other symbols on the keys cant be used

It means number lock.
It locks the keypad so you can use the numbers.
Some keys are designated for other features
7 = Home
9 = Page Up
4 = Left Arrow
6 = Right Arrow
1 = End
3 = Page Down
0 = Insert
. = Delete

number lock on a keyboard indicates that the number keypad is in use. If you turn it off the number keypad acts as as a mouse and you can use them as arrow keys
