Upper management in corporate America?
Look for jobs in central government, you'll have to be quick to get in while Blair is still in office though.

I think that the chances are not at all good in the UK unless, possibly, you could land employment with a charity, which is less likely to operate age discrimination policies. (These are, of course, illegal now, but laws don't change people's attitudes!) I would suggest that you take a look at what's going in the offshore jurisdictions near you, particularly Bermuda and the Caribbean, where prospects are better for people of your age. There would be a natural shelf life on employment in such countries because of their immigration policies, but presumably you are not looking for anything too long term. I wish you well in whatever you decide.

To be brutally honest the UK Market for these types of job is a Buyer's Market, and Buyers are looking for young Graduates. I don't rate your chances of getting a decent job in this area at your ages (I am 51). You would have to take minor unskilled jobs paying peanuts unless you create your own business to manage. There has been - and is continuing - such an influx of young, well-educated foreign labour that the UK market's clsed to over 30's. But good luck, anyway.

There are always jobs for the right people. If you have been working for known companies you will get your foot in the door with recruitment agencies.
The thing with agencies is they control acess to all top jobs, and 80% of recruitment people are idiots. You need to find one who understands your strengths, and get them to work for you. My US husband earns good money in uppper mgt, and not one of his jobs in the last 5 years has he applied for. He applied for different jobs, gets speaking to the recruitment consultant, they realise he is ace, they have found a product they can sell to one of their clients, and start looking through their files for positions that will suit him.
Most people find that when they move from America to UK for work they have to drop a level or two in salary, until they prove themselves in this country, and within a couple of years they should be back where they were when they left the US.
Your standard of living in the UK in terms of purchasing power v salary will never be as good as the US, but there must be something that keeps bringing people over here. Great food and fine weather possibly.

i'm feeling sort of depressed that my thought of the British being so style and proper has been easily destroyed by you English individuals. And only how I stereotyped all British to be perfect is the kind you basically stereotyped all human beings to be grasping. And with reference to the worldwide wars some comments up, i assume the British and American textbooks variety in information..

I run my own recruitment consultancy and place people like you and your husband regularly, with both corporate business and public sector. Why not e-mail me more about yourselves and perhaps we can explore some options.
