Red is tricky because you need to decide what type of red compliments your coloring. Because here's the thing: Red always looks red in the tube, but on you it can look plummy, orange, magenta, blue, or true red.
Generally, if you look best in cool colors (blues and greens) you will look best in a red lipstick with blue undertones. All this means, is a red lipstick that is a bit more magentaish (not magenta, but magentish) will look best on you. A bonus is that a any lipstick with a blue undertone makes your teeth look really white (it has to do with the contrast).
If you look best in warmer colors (oranges, reds, browns) you will look best in a red lipstick with an orange undertone. These types of reds will look more brownish in the tube than their counterparts.
If you are going to wear red lipstick, you want a long-wearing lipstick because the moment red starts to wear off, it starts to look like a different color, and well, just look off. So, here are my favorite brands to buy red lipstick in (red lipstick is my favorite):

Well sweetie, there are sooo many shades to choose from, I would look up your skin color with eye color & even your hair color, there is nothing wrong with red, just make sure it is the right shade!! Maybe you could go to a cosmetic counter & they would help. These days I don't see you having a problem being a guy. I'm pretty sure they are suppose to help anyone! If you are uncomfortable with that, you can probably find something on line that could suggest what shade to wear with your skin,eyes,hair. Good Luck !!

Unlike the others here I bothered to view your profile and I see the lipstick is for you, as you're a crossdreser.
I'm a pre op transsexual and when i first started dressing i made a lot of mistakes. I would tend to avoid red if I were you as it can look tacky, especially if it's too bright. Go for a nice coffee brown colour, only go for red if you're wanting to be slutty.

Honey i would say any GUY that wears lipstick, could darn well wear any shade he wants!:) If he does choose to wear it, he must wear it well, it needs to be applied correctly, and compliment his attire, not fight against it....red would be great with blacks, grays, whites, navy, You go!
