you can check out "Sophie's World" by Jostein Gaarder.
blurb says "3000 years of philosophy in 300 pages". it's worth reading. i personally recommend this book to everyone. it has inspired me as a person as well as motivated me to ponder. this book also has some really fascinating one liners. "philosophy best explained" is what i have to say about this book.

Philosophy is someones opinion or view. To study another thoughts I would think hinder you to limitations. If I were to study as you say, I would read poetry books perhaps, to see how a mind works, after all what we type here is Psychiatry in ways.

Read Osho's book. It is full of philosophy and has great meanings hidden in it. You can try some on line articles, written by him and then you can find how beautifully he explains everything. His books are a treasure with countless jewels in it. I am damn sure that if you'll read his book then you can't resist him.

To tell you not to read philosophy is like telling someone who wants to act not to take acting lessons or someone who wants to draw not to take art classes.
Start with "An Introduction to Philosophy" by Jacques Maritain, a great phlosopher of the 20th century. You don't have to have his faith (Catholic) to appreciate and learn from the book. He is firmly grounded in Aristotle and that's where philosophy begins.

You should ...YOU MUST read "Sophie's World" by Jostein Gaarder. It's a fiction based purely on philosophy, but they put a twist to it.......they make it a mystery fiction, but through reading this book, you learn tons of philosophy, and this book really got me interested in philosophy. It's an amazing book.

As an introspective philosopher... I'd typically advise that you steer clear of books and other peoples opinions full stop and just try to work things out yourself....
... But that said, the Tao Te Ching is definitely food for thought.
