Thanks for your answer, and sorry for the confusion. I have a chance to buy a NEW pc with an AMD processor pretty cheap, and was wondering if I'd be able to use it.

Using either Intel or AMD processors has no affect on your programs. It all depends on the speed and power of those processors. AMD in general cost less and produce as much power (in certain instances).

However, if I am reading you right, you are thinking about putting AMD processors in your computer/laptop?... and you currently have Intel processors?

Before you do, you need to ensure you have the right motherboard to handle the processor (among other things like DRAM etc.).

If you do not know what you are doing, either head to someone like CompUSA, or purchase a new computer with the set-up you want (depending on what you can afford). If all you want is an upgrade, head to CompUSA. They can advise and install if you need it.

AMD - prone to crashing and deteriorating faster.... but cheaper.

Intel - overheat..

before doing anything go to either manufacturers websites... find out the model of your motherboard and find which processor it takes... no motherboard takes both, its either an AMD motherboard or an Intel motherboard... then from there you have different pinned processors.

All programs work on both AMD as they do on Intel.... the only issue currently is 32 bit and 64 bit Windows XP... if you have an AMD 64 processor you can use 64 bit windows, etc and same with Intel.

Most of the programs are AMD compatible. The only issue with AMD processor is overheating and the life time of the processor is less when compared to INTEL.

I would recommend to go to AMD if u change your PC once in 5-7 Years.

Really not any difference, just competing companies like Ford and General Motors... do the same things.
