A diet? To loose weight? If not, most babies are on baby food and formula. Give them as much as they will eat. A 7-12 month old should be eating some table food. Again, let he/she have what they what. Whole milk at this age. Hope this helps!!

Breastmilk or formula until AT LEAST 12mths. Not 'as much as they want' in my opinion, babies can be glutons just like adults can. At least my girl can be, she could down 500mL in a sitting if you let her. That's half a 6mths daily suggested intake. Thankfully she was breastfed so she couldnt do that with me.
A 4-6mth old doesnt need any other food offered to him/her. Breastmilk or formula is still enough. Some start offering cereal - this is up for debate. Wait until 6mths if you can, it's better for your baby.
7-12mth babies can be given a range of cooked veggies and fruit, along with breastmilk or formula. Still at least half of calories need to be coming from 'milk' at this age, so dont push solids so hard that they arent wanting to drink enough. Start with veggies, it's harder to get babies to eat them and some refuse veggies altogether once they've had the sweet fruit. Bland is great for babies, so plain peas, carrots, etc are fine. Ask your pediatrician for a list of acceptable foods. Mine was very helpful, and wrote out a list of suggested meals for me, including amt to be given and number of times a day.

alot of people say milk only for the first year but my doctor had me start me daughter on baby food at 4 months. when you give a baby baby food its not for nutririon because they get all they need from formula/breastmilk its to let them experience new foods and start teaching them good eating skills early. so I suggest
4-6 moonths baby cereal and stage 1 baby foods along with formula and start out food 1 time a day
7-12 months sage 2 and then stage 3 baby food and cereal and formula/breastmilk,. and start introducing a sippy cup around 7 months too maybe once a day.
NEVER give your baby cow's milk intil 12 months. babies tummies are not able to digest it. if you wanto to prepare the food yourself for him/her to eat you can do that as well.
when you start food give the same food for 7-10 days and only give 1 new food at a time so if there are allergies you will know and not have to search for the food causing it.
and take your babies cues when feeding as to when they are done.
also always use a highchair as you are feeding because you are tring to teach healthy eating habits.

4-6 months the best diet is breastmilk and only breastmilk.

At around 6 months you can introduce rice cereal and pureed fruits and veggies. I think the best way to do this is to buy organic fruits and veggies and puree them in your blender.

For both age ranges, the best diet is simply mommy's milk on demand. Our sons are smart, healthy, loving, and have very straight teeth! And mommy's milk on demand for the first year is the essential ingredient in building bodies that way.

They don't need more than that.

My sister's doctor told her to keep her son on formula/breastmilk exclusively until he was a year old. He said that baby cereal is just empty calories and doesn't give him the nutrients that he needs and will just make him full.

as well as formula milk you should have introduced fruit and veg by now. boil a pot of vegatables and blend them then you can freeze it in ice cube trays, defrost a cube or 2 in the microwave making lunchtime quick and convenient. also try making a white sauce and blending cooked chicken breasts, this can be frozen too.
