The diners decide they cannot split £5 between three, so take £1 each and give the waiter a £2 tip. After then taking £1 back, the diners have paid £9 each towards the meal. The Waiter has a £2 tip.
If each diner paid £9 (9x3= 27) and the Waiter has a £2 tip the total amount of money spent is £29. The diners originally put down £30 - what happened to the remaining £1?????!!

The key here is your statement that the "TOTAL AMOUNT OF MONEY SPENT IS 29 pounds"! That is NOT true. And if that is NOT true there isn't a missing pound! Each diner paid 9 pounds for a total of 27 pounds on a 25 pound tab. That leaves 2 pounds for the waiter's tip after paying the 25 pound tab and there isn't anything missing! The diners originally put down 30 pounds, but the total spent was only 27 pounds.

The bill = £25 +£3 change +£2(for the waiter) = £30.The problem lies in the way the question is asked ,because you have rounded up the numbers and consequently lost 100p.Each diner actually paid £25 divided by 3=£8.33 recurring +£1 change.=£9.33recurring, this left 67p approx recurring,for each diner x 3 = £2.01approx,being the tip for the waiter.Hopefully you should be as confused by now as i am.

THe missing £1 is accounted for already. Their bill comes out to be £25. Now if when u add the three £'s back to that, u get 28, and the two pounds for the waiter, it all adds up to £30. Hope that made sense!!

Its very simple to calculate though you have to be little cautious as to how to calculate.
Its like this:
Three diners spent 25 bucks for the dinner and gave away 2 bucks as tip. So the total cost of the dinner is 27 bucks and it sums up to 9 bucks per head. The remaining 3 bucks are already in their pockets.

You looked at the sum in a different way, but whn you calculate it, it actually equals
