Tolerant society (thats the perception anyway!)

Diverse society - this is probally the main reason - most immigrants come to London or other big cities where they can be certain - no matter where in the world they come from, that they will be able to find a community of people from back home who share their culture and speak their language.

Economy - London especially is still seen as paved with gold by people around the world - jobs are expected to pay incredible amounts.

Social welfare - benefits, free health care etc..

Reputation - UK still has an almost paternal appeal (conciously or subcounciously) to people around the world - especially form the ex-colonies.

Open immigration policy - its a lot easy to be granted right to stay, or get in and fade away into the big cities than most other places in the world.

We speak English - a language taught in even the most remote parts of the world.

they wanted to come and get abused ,insulted ,beaten up ,spat at ,get jobs that pay less than the national wage .Because the bosses know they can get away with it .Be judged all as one if a minority person or group does something wrong. They are so happy to have their faith/religion look down on .By people who claim to be Christians ,but what they mean by this that they are white .And not religious .Because the majority never go to Church except for birth deaths and wedding Even christenings very rarely happens these days..But to answer your question i guess the main reason they are here is to take the blame for stuff.Like the fact the we have the highest single mother birth rate in Europe ..the drunken brawls in most town centres when the pubs and clubs close .Bus shelters and phone boxes and such likes being vandalised.Lack of family values .It's all their fault .And they must take the blame.Oh yeah you can judge for yourself how right i am by the amount of thumbs down i get

because the working classes no longer work because schooling is so bad.
benifits are very generous an generally you live a more comfotable life if on them rather then minimum wage as tax is so high.... so many people do.
therfore the economy is bad, so people come in to work, from countries where there are no prospects at all. they have strong work ethic and will work for not much money. they do the factory, manual, cleaning work, that now no-one else will do. the country would be in a terrible mess if they diddnt.
thats the present day anyway.

Yes Enoch Powell did have the right idea. Apparently when the Romaniens start flooding in they will need to be of a professional status to be allowed into the country. But we all know that won't happen.

As for ethnic minority it will soon be an ethnic majority. Many of the english have already gone and I believe you will, continue to see these figure rise over the coming years.

The real question should be why are there people in the UK? There were black people in Britain before there were English people. The Romans brought Soldiers, diplomats, citizens and of course slaves when they arrived in Britain, many of whom were from North Africa and the middle east. So according to ancient history we are all immigrants so why are any of us here?

Perhaps I haven't entirely answered your question, but it is an interesting argument to use when confronted with racist biggotry which you have probably encountered through your research.

Good luck

Because they were born here? Because they want to be? Because they have no choice but to leave their war torn countries and seek a better life elsewhere? Because their country is poor? Because they have family here? Because their parents brought them here? Because they married someone here? Because their are better prospects here than in their own countries? Because of Education? These are the only ones I can think of!

everythings free for them
they can move over and claim benefits without having to work live in a rent free home, get fee health care and dental care, basically all the things that were not provided in the home countries
or for the ones that come over to work, there is more chance of employment and better pay so they can look after their families.
