The baby will come out when it is ready. My first went 2 weeks over due. Sex is apparrantly the best way to encourage labour and I read somewhere that nipple stimulation for a long period of time can do this but I don't know how serious that is.

i don't know if there is anything that will send you into actual labor but i do know that walking and taking a long warm bath helps to get things started. i am about 40 weeks pregnant also and i just went to the doctor yesterday and he said i was finally 1 cm dilated and the baby had started to drop. i had just had my first contraction the night before that lasted a good while and earlier that day i had walked quite a bit and went home and took a 2 hour bath. i think really what it is, is that you just need to do something that relaxes your muscles because that's when the baby has a chance to move into the birth canal. have you noticed that the less active you are, the more active your baby is? you can feel your baby move alot more when you are just relaxing so i think that has alot to do with the labor process. well good luck, hope you can find something that works for you!

congrats to you ive found out im 16 weeks preganant , i already have two kids and both were natural births, no pain relief needeed with both so my advise would be breath through each contraction, stand up as long as possible as gravity does help lots, and if you belive that its all worth it and it dont really hurt that much cause the calmer you can stay the quicker it comes, youll get through it in no time. and no im no hippy or anything like that just a mum who has lots of medical experience as im an ex nurse and most of my family are too. i asume this is your first baby anyway good luck and keep us posted. manda

I've had four children and I can sympathize with you completely. I don't know of any sure fire ways but every time I've been in the delivery room and my labor isn't going anywhere the nurses always get me up and make me walk all over the place to get my labor going. Of course if you have three children already that's going to be hard to do. And I know when you have what seems to be a 50 lb baby in your tummy, walking isn't what you want to go out and do. But, you'll sleep better at night, and that's a problem when you're 9 mo. pregnant and can't get comfortable.
Don't forget to have that glass of wine ready (you drink a half glass of wine when you think you're in labor. If your labor pains go away after drinking the half glass of wine, it's false labor :) I was always worried I'd go to the hospital with false labor and they'd send me home, so I'd drink the wine! It won't hurt the baby.
Stay active, maybe get your birth announcements ready and don't forget to get the outfit that you're going to bring the baby home in ready and pack it in with your hospital bag. Husbands are known to pack the little hat, little sweater and booties, but nothing for their little butts! They warned me about this in birthing classes and it happened to me! It was winter and I had nothing for the child's legs.
My thoughts are with you,
Good Luck

I know it might be the last thing you feel like right now but sex sex sex - and lots of it!
It really does work! Theres something in the sperm that can kick start labour (sorry i don't know the scientific bit, i just rememeber reading it!)
My partner was so paranoid about having sex 2 days after my due date incase my waters broke but i made him! I remember lying in bed for half an hour afterwards with my bum propped on a pillow - i must of looked such a sight! -but after half an hour i was getting twinges and 5 hours later i was 7cm dialated!
Give it a go and good luck!!

I will be trying the following:
Curry/ spicy food
Pineapple (apparently the acid in it does something to start things)
Walking up/down stairs
Sex (if you can face it).
Walking along the pavement with one foot in the gutter and one on the curb (I have had 2 new mums SWEAR this works).
General long walks
Good Luck xxxxxxxxxx

they gained't make you wait too long for the induction it actual relies upon on how plenty your toddler weighs. in the journey that your toddler is massive adequate you're able to be waiting to set off in the subsequent week or so yet whilst the toddler is in simple terms too small they could make you wait a sprint longer. I actual have 3 babies and a couple of of them have been brought on. i understand you cant wait however the wellbeing care experts will make the terrific determination .good success with your upcoming transport.

Castor oil is naaasty and doesn't always work, i don't recommend it! it didn't work for me just gave me a marathon pooping session!
the best advise i know of is the three hots; hot sex, hot bath and a hot curry, not necessarily in that order but they have to be in close succession or they don't work (according to my midwife!) so get yourself a hot curry (as hot as you can manage, don't worry if its not really all that spicy, as long as its hot to YOU that's fine!), then jump in the sack with your partner and go at it as best you can (not appealing at all right now i know but try it anyway!) then make him crawl out of bed and run you a nice monkey bath, one that makes you go oo oo oo ee ee ee when you get in! other than someone breaking your waters (which should be done by a medical proffesional of course!) that's about all you can do. see saws don't work either nor do bumps in the road. i tried!
good luck!
