There are loads of freeview boxes with hard drive and/or DVD recorders! Do a little bit of research first. Look out for dual tuners (so you can do more than one thing at once) and what connectors they have (scart, rgb, etc). After the initial cost the rest of it is free! All this and film four, why give the money grabbing dimwits at sky any more money.....THEY DON'T DESERVE IT!!!

This was on watchdog about sky+ last week.
14 November 2006
Sky+ is the service that lets you record up to 80 hours of television without the need for tapes or disks. It allows you to watch what you want, when you want. You can record a whole series at the touch of a button. You can even pause, rewind and fast forward live TV.
But some Sky customers have complained to Watchdog of persistent problems with their Sky+ boxes.
Paul Wilshaw has had his Sky+ box replaced 11 times in 18 months due to persistent faults. He said: "Every Tuesday it would fail to record programmes from that day onwards. It'd just record every Tuesday." He also found his Sky+ box would delete programmes he'd recorded before he'd watched them. At other times, the box simply wouldn't operate.
Other problems included the image freezing and the box getting stuck in standby mode.
Rubin Ball witnessed the same faults: "We're now on our fourth box." But the replacement boxes Sky provided were not new. "The boxes were actually reconditioned, but they still didn't work. It was the same problems again and again," Ball said.
Thomas McKinney experienced similar faults. In Thomas' case, Sky provided him with a brand new replacement box. However, it too broke down soon after the installation engineer had left his house. McKinney said: "Within an hour or two, it started to freeze and the following day it switched itself off." He also experienced sound slipping out of synch with the pictures. "Sometimes, the sound would be up to five minutes behind. You just couldn't watch it," he said.
Sky customer services are also a cause for complaint. Customers object to being placed on hold for lengthy periods just to report their problems. "I don't have time to spend an hour on the phone to a customer services department who, in all honesty, can't help," said Ball.
"At one point I phoned them up and I was on hold for two and a half hours", said Wilshaw. He continued: "Eventually I got through to someone but still, to this day it hasn't been fixed."
Paul Wilson, Sky's product manager, provided a response.

I first bought a dvd recorder but this was expensive and the dvd's are'nt cheap. Also you have to set it to record as you did with a VCR.
I now have Sky plus and although it is expensive for the package its well worth it. You can record full series's at a touch of a button, delete instantly and even set up so you can press record via your mobile phon just in case youve forgotton something.
I soooooo would be lost without it now!

For me, Sky + is the best option. It is the best gadget I have ever owned. I got mine in July 2004 and have never looked back.
Think of it this way...You pay your subscription and cant watch programmes while you sleep. This box does that for you. Every time you are in the mood to watch TV you have the choice of the best TV for you. Not the cr@p that's on.
