Such a simple answer.
Use Round-Up.
This is a grassy weed control that takes effect in 10 to 14 days.
It only effects grass, and has little to no residual effect on soil.
If this is around your plants, add 4 inches of mulch and the problem is resolved.

I've had great success using 7 to 9 layers of newspaper and mulch on top.
If your liner is a vertical barrier between grass and garden, try hand pulling or painting Roundup (using a paintbrush.)
Salt? I wouldn't try that. Salt will effectively poison the earth and will leach into the desired areas killing your plants.

don't use any chemicals in your garden that will kill the grass, they will leech through the soil and kill the plants around where you put them down

It has been my experience that whatever you try it will only stop the problem temporarily....nature always finds a way...i do appreciate your problem though..it is so annoying.
