I'm a single male travelling to The Philippines over Christmas to see some friends. I want to take a few days off and go somewhere outside of Manila so I was thinking Puerto Galera or Cebu. Where do you recommend and why?

Puerto Galera is not too far from Manila but if you're planning on staying throughout christmas and new year, Cebu is the better choice. Puerto Galera is on an island and you can't buy everything you need when you're on an island. at least in cebu, you can enjoy the beaches as well as the city life.

I definitely recommend Cebu if you're staying over Christmas. Actually whether it's Christmas or not I wouldn't recommend Puerto Galera. I think it's overrated. The beaches there aren't even that nice compared to Boracay. Going back to Cebu... there are more to see there. There's a great city life and beach life...you get the best of both worlds. The crowd's better too.

Cebu is way much better that Puerto Galera. There are many prostitutes in Puerto Galera that place sucks! Cebu is much decent place and seems classy for me to say!

Puerto Galera is good for diving, snorkeling and its very close to Manila. It has whitesand beach also and you can hop to different islands & islets. 2hrs by land travel and 45 minutes by ferry from Batangas. Its much cheaper than Cebu.

Cebu from Manila is an hour flight. and 16 hours by ship. In Mactan island, a lot of resorts that you can stay with. You can enjoy also the city tour. Its a big island compare to Puerto Galera.

I will recommend that you book in advance because the resorts are running full nowadays due to peak season and long holiday. for further assistance and information you may need, pls email me at lindaltan@yahoo.com - im a travel agent in Manila.

i'm from Cebu and believe me Cebu isn't all that it's cracked up to be...sure, there's the night life, we can speak fluent english, great resorts but the environment in the city sucks (especially in the sea port..you can die from the stench..). it's only good to stay there for a few days..if you are after relaxation, better choose from these three locations: Palawan (if you want to go diving), Boracay (overrated in my opinion but nevertheless a good option) or Camigiun (beautiful island, friendly people and lots of things to do there). Happy travelling!
