No it can be removed at any point in your cycle. Some do prefer to wait until you are on your period bc your cervix is slightly open and also alllows some lubrication. Those are the main reasons why they preffer to insert and removed the IUD while on your period

No. Some OBGYN's suggest that you be on your period when an IUD is removed, as it may cause some bleeding for a few days. Women generally prefer to get all the monthly bleeding over with all in one week, rather than schedule a second time for some possible bleeding. The only reasoning behind this is for your convenience.
