Take her to Stratford upon Avon. It's a beautiful little town, obviously with a great focus on all things Shakespeare and there are lots of Bed and Breakfasts and hotels so I'm sure you could find something in your price bracket.

Cambrige is not far. I went a while ago on the train from Kings Cross, it took 45mins. It's a lovely place to have a wander round.
As someone already, said Stratford Upon Avon is good, but these places are probably better when the weather is nicer.
Rye in Kent is small, but has cobbled streets and churches and is quite quaint. Also Canterbury is not far from London, and has lots of restuarants, pubs, the catherdral and just generally a really nice atmosphere. How about staying in Canterbury, and going to Rye for the day? They're very close. And Hastings is near by too.
Brighton is an obvious suggestion, but is worth going to - lots of restaurants, shops, very hip/trendy bar and club scene and the traditional pier/fish and chips type stuff.
The Cotswolds are further away, and not near London but if you didn;t mind the drive I don;t think you'd be able to find anywhere more quaint. Quite touristy though, so not the most peaceful place.
Have a relaxing weekend.

If you want the coast
try Southwold , north of London or
try Broadstairs, Whitstable, Folkestone or Eastbourne south of London.
If you want an attractive historic town, try St Albans or Amersham north of London, Chichester south of London.
If you go before the schools break up for the Christmas holidays you should be able to get a good rate in local hotels. Check www.theaa.com for different hotels and guest houses.
Two very attractive quiet old towns are Burford (west of Oxford) and Stamford (Lincolnshire) but they are a bit further from London.

What about Oxford, only a drive away from London, plenty to see what with it being an historic university town. The Malmaison is beautiful but probably out of your price range, try www.laterooms.com, www.opodo.com or www.expedia.co.uk for some suggestions.
Once you find a hotel you like the look of, check other traveller's reviews of it on

you may flow particularly a strategies exterior of london yet nonetheless have stable return and forth routes to london. I stay in an excellent city (greater like a city) referred to as Milton Keynes, and might get a prepare to london which takes 30-forty minutes. in case you needed nearer, attempt staring at places exterior london like Luton. there's an excellent highway referred to as the M25 that's in certainty a circle around london. in case you reside exterior it, this is going to be greater much less high priced, yet nonetheless particularly close.
