If I was foreign, I would immigrate to the U.S. for the better opportunities for education, social status, and career for women.

Everyone seems to think you can get very rich in the states. What they often don't realise is how much health insurance costs (and the fact it usually only subsidies costs, not covers them!) or that you usually get about 5 days a year holiday so thats nearly a whole extra month you work for that salary (plus you never get to go anywhere!!), and the fact that there is no such thing as job security cuz there's no employment contracts in many states. You can get fired after 20 years and your money will stop the day they tell you.
People should realise that you have to be VERY rich in America to be rich- otherwise you are always living on the brink of disaster (redundancy w/o severence pay, cancer, etc).
People always say to me that they want to live in the states, they quickly change their mind when I tell them all this. For someone who is used to life in the UK, with national health and EU laws giving us lots of holiday and employee rights, it would be a real shock to the system!

I was in America a few weeks ago and fell in love with it! I'd emigrate if i was a bit younger because it's such a fantastic country! I am a registered nurse so could easily get a green card (To go) And work there but i won't because, again i'm a bit too old. Was i 10 years younger i'd go though! There would nothing as good as working there and enjoying my days off visiting this fabulous country, learning more about American culture and enjoy the space, people because they are so lovely! Americans are such a great bunch of people! I love them. So that's that!

Because you were offered a HUGE salary and health insurance.
Because you wanted to live in the particular city and you have the above
Because Bill Gates adopted you.
Because you are rich and famous aka Robbie Williams and you want anonymity.
Because you are a Mormon and want to live in S.L.C.. Because you are a moron!

Depends what you want! America has some beautiful areas and good opportunities. Personally it would not be my first choice but why not?!
