The Athens Polytechnic uprising in 1973 was a massive demonstration of popular rejection of the Greek military junta of 1967-1974, which was otherwise known as the Regime of the Colonels and led by the dictator George Papadopoulos. The uprising began on November 14, 1973, escalated to nearly an open anti-junta revolt and ended with bloodshed in the early morning of November 17 with a tank crushing the gates of the Polytechnic.
I think it is further evidence that proves Dictatorships need to end and that they never come to an end quietly and peacefully.

November 17 is the name of a small Greek terrorist organisation (now disbanded) formed to commemorate that date in 1973 when a bloody student protest (the Athens Polytechnic uprising) against the ruling military junta (regime of the Colonels) was ended after 4 days when a tank crushed the gates of the university.

The radical leftists' attacks were aimed at overthrowing capitalism. 19 members of November 17 were tried in 2003 on 2000 separate charges following a failed bomb attack the previous year. A total of 23 murders were attributed to them.

17 November is a national holiday in Greece and demonstrations have been held on in subsequent years to commemorate the anniversary of the uprising. These start at the polytechnic campus and end at the US embassy.

The events probably indirectly led (or certainly contributed) to the downfall of the junta less than a year later.

The students of the universities in both Athens and Salonica rioted and locked themselves in the Polytechnic to overrule the countries Junta. The dictators army drove tanks into the walls of the polytechnic causing many to die. This was the beginning of the end for dictatorship and in 1974 the Democrates came to rule once again in Greece.
