first off it is a real pineapple. There is an episode where worms come and eat it and sponge bob tries to live with squidward than Patrick. Sponge bob and Patrick try and build a new house but that doesn't work so he is going home to live with his parents and just when his parents pull up to get him a new one starts growing. Any-who its a cartoon that's why it doesn't rot lol
