No atmosphere to hold air in, and also no air. No air because all the componets of air (CO2, O2 and N2) are made by some biological life form. There is no life on the moon, and therefore none of these gasses.

Fire Sun = vital basic self-expression Air Moon = intellectualized emotionality Air Sun = mentally-based self-expression Fire Moon = fiery passionate emotionality Fire and Air sextile with each other. That means there is an opportunity for these elements to understand their differences and to work together as one. Favorite Sun and Moon positions: Sagittarius, Aquarius, Aries, Gemini All of them value freedom and independence. That's why I like them the most.

why is there no air on the moon?

No Air

basically moon does not have enough gravity to hold the air molecules near its surface which could form its atmosphere.
in more technical terms, the RMS velocity of air molecules is greater than the ESCAPE velocity on moons surface so they easily escape out the gravitational feild of moon

The simple answer is that it is so small that its gravity is not strong enough to hold an atmosphere. However there are some small moons elsewhere in the solar system which do have atmospheres so the answer is not so simple. One reason a planet or moon has an atmosphere may be that it has geological processes going on that replenish the gases. On earth volcanoes are a source of some gases.

The moons that have atmospheres are
Jupiter's Io and Europa, Saturn's Titan, and Neptune's Triton.

All of these moons are much farther away from the sun than our moon so they are colder and that means that molecules of air are slower and less likely to escape their moon's gravity.

Io has volcanoes and Europa has ice and probably liquid water under the ice. Both of these phenomena could help replenish the air.

In summary, our moon is small and hot (on the sunlit side). Any air molecules it ever had were heated by the sun which sped them up and they escaped the moon's weak gravity. Also our moon does not have an active geology which could supply new gases.

The moon does not have an Atmosphere that can contain Air
It shares the vacuum with its outer space

If there was any air or something similar on the moon when it and the solar system was created, because of it's weak gravitational pull it lost all it's gas elements into space billions of years ago

because the moon is so small that it does not have enough of a gravitational pull to keep a thick atmosphere

I think it is because the moon's gravity is not strong enough to hold on to an atmosphere.
