Here is an easy fast way into games. Go to http://www.shove-it.com find game you want to play. Click on file, send, desk-top short cut. This gives you a straight link to shove it. You can Right click on the icon and rename it to the game, now click on lounge, it will take you to yahoo games or pogo,which ever you choose, log in page. Log in then minimize it while its loading. Now click lounge again and open the window back up. Your in. nice thing is you can get in any lounge or game that’s full or not. Good luck with your games

It's not actually chess but have a look at http://www.arimaa.com . The game is played on a chess board but with different rules. I find it more fun than chess because there are fewer moves per game, which makes it shorter and there aren't so many draws as in chess.
The web site allows you to play against other humans or computer controlled players (bots). There is a rating system so you can measure your progress and a bot ladder so you can always play an opponent at your level. You can also chat to players while playing.
The world arimaa championships are being played on this website at the moment and you can view progress of the games.

well you are on yahoo so just type in YahooKids that is where most of these games are even the ones on yahoo link you to that. or on the yahoo home page (not your own!) jus click games and you should be able to find chess that will link you to yahookids (it used to be caled Yahooligens!)
