Bob Hope. Outstanding with one-liners. He was always topical (current with the news) and he always hired the best comedic writers. Most notably, he consistently went to the battlegrounds to perform live comedy performances and tours, even in the remotest locations, from WW2 to the Gulf War. His movies were great and he was a great author, too.
