I really hate this saying. It means that someone could care less if you cried so much you could form a river. I think this is heartless and one of the most cruel things you could say to someone. Some people don't think what the person is crying about is important or they just don't care that this person is that upset over the situation. Yes some people are really sensitive(myself included) but a tear is not to be taken lightly, if it makes them cry it is important to them. And saying cry me a river just make it worse and can really make a hurtful situation so much worse on the one crying.

But if someone has hurt you so bad and then they try and come and cry to you about how sorry they are then that is another thing. If they are truly sorry the tears may be real and then it might not be right to say. But if they are always doing things like that then yeah it is appropriate to say it then.

Well thats what it means to me, how about you?

He is making comment about shedding tears/crying. Crying, crying and crying until their is so much water that the sorrow and tears could flow as swiftly as a river of water.

mayb it means cry out ur sorrows, so tht once u finish all ur crying, u'll be fresh
