No its not safe to take out cd while its running.As it can get scratchs etc on its surface and that will cause data loss.

Yes, it is safe to take the CD out while it is still running. When you press the CD rom key, it sends out an interrupt signal to the operating system which inturn orders the CD ROM to stop reading immediately. The programms that are accessing your CD ROM will return an error message.

You mean while it's still spinning? Then yeah..if you mean while the laser is reading the disc...then I wouldn't recommend it, although that still wouldn't damage the CD.
