I currently go to GCC. I have 19 units + 13 units in which I am currently enrolled. I have been following the plan to get a degree at GCC. I was halfway through a degree in Business Administration. I have not been following a transfer plan. It would be much too stressful to try and switch plans now and try and fit it in with my work schedule.

Is there any other way to get into CalStateLA or UCLA without following a transfer plan? Can't I get my degree from Glendale Community College and then later on apply at CalStateLA or UCLA ? I know I've heard of people getting their AA at one school and their BA at another school.. Right?

What about applying as a Lower Division Transfer Student? Can you tell me more about this and would this work for me? I have just become a California Resident and my high school GPA and SAT scores were good.

First of all, all transfer students are lower division. Most, if not all, schools require that all of you upper division coursework be taken at their campus. There are junior transfers, however that title merely means that a student has fufilled enough units to attain junior standing, very very rarely does that mean a student has fufilled upper division major requirements.

As far as transferring after you get your AA, you still need to apply to UCLA or CSULA the fall prior to when you'd plan on attending. So if you're going to get your AA in summer 07, you'd need to apply by November 06. If you don't apply before you get your AA, you will be out of college for a while as most schools do not accept midyear transfers.

If your hopes are to go to UCLA I'd highly recommend getting into a transfer program. So many transfer students apply to UCLA each year from a guaranteed transfer program, that UCLA simply doesn't have any room for students who don't come from those programs, and they end up getting turned down. CSULA on the other and is much less impacted and you could easily be accepted with little more than good grades.

When you do decide to apply as a transfer student, since you have been in college at least a year, your high school grades and standardized test scores will not be considered. Only your college grades and whatever else the application requires (essay, extracirriculars, etc), will be on the application.

Lastly, Don't worry about getting your AA, if you plan on getting a BA from a university. Employers will only look at your highest degree (of the same field of study) andwhere you earned it . So if you get accepted to UCLA or CSULA for fall 07, but you haven't finished up your AA by summer 07, don't worry about it. An AA is a lesser degree and should not impeed your progress to a BA.

Good luck.

It all depends upon your favored Major. If you favor sciences, math, engineering, your first-rate guess is UCs (But university is rather high-priced to visit any UC). California State Universities are extra low priced and also you get from your schooling.

I'm a college student at ucsc, and your questions sound like ones that will be easily answered by an academic advisor/counselor at your campus. good luck!
