This is a scam.

First of all, you cannot send money from Nigeria abroad without extensive permission from the CBN, so something is fishy about the story. Second of all, his company or someone there should be able to help him out. $200 amongst mates in Nigeria is not that much money, so unless he has no friends or acquaintances, someone is scamming you.

You may have a friend there, but it may not be him who contacted you. A few years back there was a scam of people calling relatives of expats living there saying that there was amedical emergency and money was need for hospitals, etc. I lived there a few years back and we were told to make all of our relatives aware not to send money.

I heard this exact story from a man I chatted to briefly on the internet a couple of years ago. I had the good sense to verify his story and of course it was all a scam, as is this. I hope for your sake you haven't sent him any money.
