Unlikely, since distribution of fixed resources( i.e natural wealth, land, oil...etc) will always be uneven and not possible to accomodate. Also self interest preservation of humans and nations as a whole cannot sustain any peaceful global community on the long run.

After 7 thousand years of civilization, I hope it is more possible than it seems. I sometimes try to imagine 6.5 billion people making a simple choice to live life on the basis of love instead of living fear-based lives. Great teachers have given us the tools to make this choice. Yet even I can fret about the silliest things. What prevents us from taking one step? If taking the step is possible, then global peace is possible.

It is not possible. Conflicts are inevitable and diplomatic resolutions have never been a unilateral goal - at any time in recorded history.
We cannot even keep our small, nuclear families united and harmonious...how can we worry about the "global community"??

Ahhhh....finally a question close to my heart!!...and a damn good one too!
Well, although a lot of us would like to think it would someday be possible....unfortunately I doubt it very much with all the problems going on in the world (and I'm not talking just Iraq either), there's just too many evil, self centred, corrupted people sitting in power thinking about themselves and their pockets therefore the 'little people' suffer from the 'bigwigs' gain.
Maybe not our generation or our childrens', but let's hope somewhere in the future people wake up and see the destruction and hurt they're causing and start working together for a Peaceful World.
