Since this was at the very start of your pregnancy and you didnt know so please dont beat yourself up, I did the same thing apart from mine was with cocaine. I didnt know I was pregnant and my body rejected the drugs. But as soon as I found out I stopped everything, and now dont even drink or let people smoke in the same room as me. I worried a lot about the effects, but spoke to my widifes and gotten advice from councillors and they all say that most drugs dont harm the baby if its a one off etc, but if its continual usage that is when the baby can be harmed. So please try to not worry so much about it, pregnant women have also been prescribed valium so I wouldnt worry too much about them, but dont do it again, take a natural tablet such as Kalms if you feel under stress and even then ask the pharmasist first.
Good Luck

First of all, sorry for the loss of your father. It is difficult when you lose a loved one. I totally understand your concern and worries that the Valium might effect the development of your baby. First of all, let me state that the first couple of weeks of pregnancy the fetus is unaffected by what you took, at least, it is what I was told by a professional when I was pregnant with my second child and did not realize it (my menstruation cycle was messed up for a couple of months). Also not all medications or drugs have an ill effect on the fetus and/or the ill effects can be dependent on what stage of development the fetus is at. I took all sorts of medication for allergies and on top of that, I was on vacation and partying a bit. In order to ease my mind, I contacted an agency (Medications in Pregnancy) in a hospital, in the area where I live, which addresses such questions. If no agency such as that exists in your area, I would contact your doctor to advise you where to call or call a hospital and talk to a professional. When I did this, they wanted to know when I got pregnant and they asked that I list the meds I took and the approximate dates when I took them. It did ease my mind to hear from a professional that what I took did not effect the fetus. Other than that, as you probably are aware, you should be sure to check out the development of the baby through an ultrasound examinations. Everything will be fine. Good luck to you.

I would discuss this with your doctor. Any prescription or non prescription drugs should be brought to your doctor's attention.
I don't think any harm could of been possibly done to become a serious risk to your fetus if this was a one dose. However, I am not a doctor nor anyone on yahoo (even if claim they are). Multi dosage or at constant rate could have a slight affect or change depending on the stage of development and how much dosage you took.
Never take prescription drugs that are not prescribed to you. Even if she is a wonderful friend. That dosage or medication could of caused side affects to you or your baby. That is what doctors are for.
I am sorry for your loss of your father and I do recommend you to seek some counseling if you feel that would help. Depression and stress can also affect your developing fetus. Take good care of yourself for your health and your baby's.

Wisest to get off of it now and see a doctor.
Diazepam is in the FDA pregnancy category D. This means that diazepam is known to harm an unborn baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant.
Diazepam passes into breast milk. Do not take diazepam without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
http://www.drugs.com/diazepam.html
http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsDrugs/Diazepamcd.html
Usage in Pregnancy: An increased risk of congenital malformations associated with the use of minor tranquilizers (diazepam, meprobamate and chlordiazepoxide) during the first trimester of pregnancy has been suggested in several studies. Because use of these drugs is rarely a matter of urgency, their use during this period should almost always be avoided. The possibility that a woman of childbearing potential may be pregnant at the time of institution of therapy should be considered. Patients should be advised that if they become pregnant during therapy or intend to become pregnant they should communicate with their physicians about the desirability of discontinuing the drug.
In humans, measurable amounts of diazepam were found in maternal and cord blood, indicating placental transfer of the drug. Until additional information is available, Valium Injection is not recommended for obstetrical use.

Valium is a very safe drug, I doubt if it actually hurt your baby. The biggest thing about valium is it depresses the drive to breath, which fetuses do not need to worry about due to getting their oxygen from the umbilical cord and the mother.
I doubt it hurt your baby if you took it the way it was intended. However if you want to feel really safe make an appointment with a pediatrician. They have a better understanding of how drugs pass the placenta barrier and an give a better more detailed answer.

It depends on how much you took, your weight, how far along you were in your pregnancy etc. The only way to answer this definitively is to see your gynie.
On another note (NOT a lecture) please be aware that 'borrowing' drugs is illegal in most places. Now that you know you are PG (congrats!!) talk to your doc about what is and is not safe to take with the baby.
I'm sorry for your loss, I know it is hard, and I DO understand needing the help from the Valium. I hope it feels better soon.

most people say that the first trimester is the most dangerous baby wise taking medicine, but if you haven't had any bleeding or any bad cramping i would stop worrying about it and call your doctor tomorrow just to double check, I am so sorry about your dad and i wish you best of luck with your baby!!

The only person who might have the answer would be your doctro. When your doctor asked about drugs why didn't you tell him/her about the vallium at that time?
