Typically softball is played by women, and baseball for men. However, softball is played by both guys and girls, my nephew plays! Even at my job, we hold softball games (baseball's too rough, softball's a little..softer if you will, and have smaller balls), and the teams are guys and girls. Also, notice how when girls play softball, people call it girls/women's softball, not just softball? Sports are for both sexes, like football is mostly men, but still there are still some girls who play it and ice-skating is both girls and guys..... either way, you play for the love of the game, and you have fun :-)

Softball is for both. But in the professional world, fastpitch softball is peopled by women. I am not aware of a professional softball league in the United States. In Japan, there is a semi-pro women's league that a lot of the top American female softball players play in.

On a social level, softball is played extensively at company picnics, and similar events. I played softball (slow pitch) when I was in college, and joined an amature team (fast pitch) when I started working. Softball is a good social sport, and just a comptitive as baseball without the fear of getting beaned by a pitch that can lame you for life.

In short, guys who play baseball may look down on softball, but their attitude is unfounded. I have seen professional baseball players try to hit some professional softball women's pitchers and they couldn't. I think it was Derek Jeter vs. that blond babe (I forget her name, but she was on the last two olympic teams).

Guys and girls playing softball, slow pitch or fast pitch, is a great thing.

Hope this helps.

Softball is for girls while baseball for boys. Well, they're actually the same and I have no idea why they have different names. Now that's an interesting question.

It's for girls, or men who act like boys when they're drinking beer.
