My son's 9 month check-up is tomorrow, and I know he'll be getting shots. Does anyone know about how many?

Also, how much did your babies weigh at 9 months? When is it that babies are supposed to double their birth weight? Is it 6 months? When do they triple their birthweight?

At 6 months is when the baby doubles their birth weight. At 12 months is when the baby triples in weight. Some babies may still need to finish receiving the Hepatitis B, or the HIB, IPV, or DTaP if they were not previously given or were missed. My mom says I weighed around 18 pounds at that time.

At 6 months they double their birthweight. Each time you get shots, it's usually 3 or 4 shots. The number of shots depends on the type of injection serum they use. Some companies lump the vaccinations into one shot so the kids don't have to suffer as much.
My kids have had 5 vaccinations in 3 shots before.

At our 9mth ck-up we didnt get any vaccines given to our girl who's now 12 mths, but then we arent in the US and the shot schedules are different. It also depends on the Dr I think. But how many?? Ooh, they give more than 1 at a time? Yikes. Here, they have several vaccines combined into one. She's had a total of 5 shots so far, but vaccinated against 9 diseases.

I agree with someone who says the weight doesnt matter - it's the steady weight gain that is. Doubling their birth weight is typically around 6mths, but then some babies take longer and that is normal too. For instance, my girl was born almost 10lbs. She didnt reach 20lbs until around 9 1/2mths I think... I breastfed her, she was satisfied with that, I didnt worry. The 6mths for doubling their weight is a guideline only. If I had a little munchkin who weighed 6lbs at birth, it would have been much easier to get her to double her weight!! At 12mths she's around 22lbs I think, and is the most healthy, active girl we could imagine. A lot of this is decided by genetics I think - some babies gain a lot of weight while others dont. Dont worry too much about the scale, unless your baby is too fat and then you should pay attention to what you're feeding him/her.

I don't know about the shots. My son didn't get any at his nine month appointment but did at his six month appointment. This is the first appointment he never got shots. I'd ask your doctor about that.

He weighed 23 lbs. I'm not too sure when they are supposed to triple their birth weight but again that's something to ask the doctor.

I normally keep a list on the fridge of things I want to ask the doctor (I'm not a fan of calling just to "ask") so I just have everything sorted when I get there.

I think it was 3 shots altogether this time (she got a flu shot as well, that was a hard decision for us). She weighed 18 1/2 lbs and she started out at 7 lbs 12 oz. Good luck at the appointment! I think I've finally started crying less when the needle goes in than she does :)

what your baby weighs isnt so important.. the fact that they continue to grow on a nice growing curve is more important. My kids were all around 19 lbs at a year old and close to 9 lbs at birth.. they are all healthy and "normal". my son is 22 months old and about 23 lbs. now. thats just how he is, on the "skinny" side. (he's breastfed).

how many shots they get depends on your docs.. differnt docs have differnt vaccination schedules.. should be 2 or 3 tho.
