break it down like this:
-4 - (-3) = -1 why? b/c when you subtract a negative it becomes a positive b/c the two negatives get canceled out: -4 + 3 = -1 Now you take (-1)^2 or you can look at it like this: (-1) * (-1) = 1 Whenever you multiply two negatives, once again the negative gets canceled out. The answer is (+1) or 1. Hope it's helpful b/c you can't just say an answer w/out being able to explain how you got there-and calculators are sometimes not allowed ;-)

(-4-(-3)^2) = -13

look at it this way
