Because it doesn't flatter human egotism the way religious cosmology does.
Biological evolution has been better proven that any other scientific theory. You can send a sharp eyed eight year old out into a field anywhere in the world and he/she can usually find proof that the world has not always been as it is now in the form of the fossils of animals unlike any in existance today.
Mutation, genetic drift and adaptive evolution have all been observed. Speciation events have been observed. Speciation events are being observed as they unfold.

The theory of evolution has now been proved; contact me for details if desired, so it is now correct to call it the fact of evolution, even though the language of science will continue to refer to it as a theory. No religious theory of evolution (or of anything else) can ever be proved, because such a theory cannot -- by definition -- have observable consequences. Religion deals with supernatural causes; in science, supernatural causes are never admissible.

You can't prove a historic theory with science, because science is based around observation, and you can't observe the past. The only way to prove a theory about history would be to find a solid primary source(written account) from that period in time.

proof-look around-the effects that selective breeding can cause within a species is obvious-as obvious as the difference between a Chihuahua and a St Bernard-we use our knowledge of genetics and still want to claim ignorance of it-I don't understand that.

I'm not religious, I think it's all a bunch of crap. The most history can actually prove is about 6000 years. It's a theory. It is not fact, it's a bleeding theory! For all we know aliens put us here or we evolved from termites. No one really knows. Personally, I don't care.

I think you have answered your own question.. It is something that people believe or they don't... most do not investigate for themselves what they believe but rather rely on what they have been taught.
