Midnight is when the clock turns from 11:59 a.m. to 12:00. It is the ending of one 24-hour period and the beginning of the next 24-hour period, and doesn't really have to do with day or night, other than it occurs in what we refer to as the middle of the night.

Although it occurs at night, it is the beginning of a new day.
In ancient times it was considered a new day, 1 hour after the sunset.
But with our clocks we can count time more accurately and that is why midnight was considered to be the beginning of the new day

Midnight is at 12:00:00 and it's the end of night. At 12:00:01, that's when the day starts.

Even tho it is considered 12am. So start of the day. The term midnight is the time between sunset and sunrise. That changes day to day.
