In the ms word go to tolls, then go to options and select the edit tab,. there the first option that is - "typing replaces selection should be ticked" if not it does not replace the text which is selected and you have to delete it OK say thanks

Select the text you want to type over - it will be highlighted. As soon as you begin to type, the old/previous will disappear. Is that what you wanted?

This is better than turning "insert" off and typing over existing text.

You should have an "Insert" key on your keyboard. Press this key, then it should allow you to type over text.

you should "turn on" the insert function, just press the insert button on your keyboard once.. and if you want to make it back, just press it once again baby...
