I have a 97 Trans Am, 5.7 liter stick shift with T tops. Black paint, grey leather interior, all in mint condition. The problem is my ex blew a rod in the engine, and currently the engine/transmission is all over the place. The body is perfect, the interior is perfect and I adore this car.

The question is: should I keep it and get a new engine/tranny, or should I just let it go?

i own a repair shop, and if its that nice id keep it and replace the engine and tranny if necessary, you can do this fairly cheap ,a lot cheaper than you could buy another trans-am,but the choice is yours, after all its your car ,and your money ,but i think you made a good decision on getting rid of the boy friend ,anyone who blows your car up,and don't repair it is not much of a friend ,but the car is fixable,so think it over and there are a lot of good used engines out there that will fit it,good luck,i hope this help,s.and have a good thanksgiving.

Depends. How much do you really love that car? I love my Camaro so I'd put it back together. Or you could salvage the parts and sell off the car in peices, and then buy another one.

I'm assuming that blowing a rod in the engine is the reason why your ex is an ex? lol.

keep it any issues would have already shown up through now. in case you realize the motor vehicle and understand who has treated it. Like your moms and dads so that you realize the motor vehicle. Any motor vehicle is weak to breaking down. With really sixty 9,000 miles on it that project isn't even broke in reliable yet. only keep it up reliable: you realize preventive upkeep on it like grease and oil replace, plugs because it isn't a D so assuming that's gas. it is going to very last you awhile.

keep the car and put a new engine in it and use the tranny that came out of the car if it's not in pices.

It's worth fixing. It may cost a few grand, but in the end you'll have quite a car.
