I just turned 17, Im a pretty normal teenage girl, I am getting married in 2 years (yes I know its young) and I have a pretty good life...until it comes to my mom and my family. In the 17 years I have been on this earth, I have NEVER been able to get along with my mom. Its only recently that I found about that I could be emancipated. My mother and I get into physical fights, some started by her, some I admit were started by me. We have gotten into yelling matches sometime so loud that the police have had to been called. She verbally abuses me as well as my entire family. My family hates us, so I cant stay with them. I really do not wanna be at my mothers throat anymore and I dont want to go through another year of being put down and have my self esteem be any lower than it is. And I dont want to get into anymore confrontations with my mother because I DO love her. I dont know how to go about becoming emnacipated so I was looking for some advice! Thank you in advance

I would love nothing more than to stay with family or my boyfriend. However, my entire family hates me and my mom and also my boyfriend is living in Florida right now. My mother HATES my boyfriend and refuses to let me see him even though he has offered to pay for my plane tickets and everything...I just dont know what to do. I have been having suicidal thoughs lately because my self esteem is so low and I have tried to tell her I need help but she wont listen...I just dont know what to do anymore. Thanks for your opinion though! :)

Here is my advice...dont get emancipated and here are the reasons...you are already 17 so whats the point of becoming emancipated...thats number 1...I'm assuming that you still live with your mom now. You are about to be married and most importantly you are about to be 18, the legal age where you can make all the decisions you want. From the sounds of it, you already do that...so theres really no need to be emancipated. It sounds like your relationship with your mom is really volatile so stay away from each other. I dont know if it would be an option for you to stay with a friend or family member or even your boyfriend so that you and your mom can have some much needed space. Regardless of what the issue is, whether your mom really leaves a lot to be desired or whether you are unreasonable teen, one thing is without quesion, you two need some time apart and regardless of any law or order she is and will always will be your mom. My mother and I have never gotten along, I'm 27 and we dont even speak to this day, but I moved out when I was 14 and stayed with my grandmother and went on to be successful, but I never did anything legal because if my mom and I were to ever be blessed enough to have a second chance at a wonderful relationship I wouldnt want to have legal seperation issues on our hands. Bottom line is you can have your independence without a court order. Take care of yourself and since you and your mom arent close make sure that you are getting good advice from someone that you can look up to, because at 17 even though we think we know it all, we kinda dont...I know hard to believe right? But I still dont and I'm 27...I wish you the best and I pray that one day you and your mom will be able to forgive and forget....
