i own a repair shop and if it goes all the way out it wont start, or will start but not run for very long at all,and if it does go out while driving it will stall it out no matter where your at,but if it has done this there's a good chance it went out on it,you might want to check the fuse for it, but if its not getting any gas it probably went out,or the fuel filter may have stopped up on it,and there is one other possibility ,it may have a bad pump relay on it this will make the pump not run at all, good luck,i hope this help,s.and have a good thanksgiving.

it could be many, many different things... 1) your motor is missing- a cylinder is not firing properly. this will cause the entire care to shake and possibly stall. this can be caused also by many things a) bad spark plug b) fuel injector is bad (not a fun project) c) more stuff based on the car. i would suggest a manual for your car made by Haynes. best $20 ever spent 2) low idle speed as already described 3) air leak somewhere (a manifold leak). to check, spray engine starting fluid from an aerosol can around the motor. If it revs, that's your problem an excellent idea would be to take your car to an autozone or other store like that. they will do a free diagnostic on your car and tell you what exactly is wrong as long as it is part of the computer system* (for example, a fuel filter wont show up as a bad part) *if the problem is some sort of miss, the computer that the store uses to test your car will tell you that there is a bad oxygen sensor. DO NOT BUY A NEW ONE!!!!! they are expensive and will almost always show up as a problem because they get the wrong emissions rating. ps. go with the cheapest fixes first.

First most common problem is generall a dirty or clogged fuel filter.
Second most common problem is the fuel pump failing. Most modern electric fuel pumps can be heard when you turn the key on. If you don't hear the pump running and your car will not start, it could be your fuel pump. The first thing a mechanic will check is the relay which sends power to the pump. If this is operating correctly then the pump will have to be replaced.

The car will cut off and it will not start. It will try to start, But it will just run the battery down. When you turn the key on u should be able to hear a noise from the fuel pump. If it is the one in the gas tank, before you go all out and drop the tank... look in the bottom of your trunk and see if there is a cut out spot that u can twist off and gain access to the fuel pump from there. Its easier now than it used to be. Take it out and have them test it at the auto parts store. Its not as bad as it was fixing this! Im a girl and I did it!

Yes, it sure does. It's like you're trying to light a bulb without electricity. But if your engine's stalled it's not necessarily your fuel pump. First check all your filters. Then check your Ignition leads. It could be your ignition coils also. But the bottom line is the fuel pump can cause your engine to stall.

Yes, if the pumps stops pumping fuel then the engine stops. I had a 87 Nissan Pulsar and was sitting at a red light and it just stopped running. I got it pulled home and changed the fuel pump under the back seat and it ran great afterwards. Love them cars. I want another one, but it must be another black one, which I have my eye on one. Change your fuel pump, but first some cars have a fuse for the engine control or fuel pump. If not blown, change the pump and try that. Good Luck. What kind and year car are you talking about?
