I am wondering if anyone can tell me which, in their opinion, is better. I have used both meds before and the Gentian Violet seems to work a lot faster than the Nystatin. My Dr. gave me Nystatin and told me that I could use either, whichever I prefer, so I have both meds and I don't know which to use. Can anyone help me? By the way, my baby is 5 months old, not sure if that matters or not. Thank You.

I know it's messy, that's not a concern. :)

The bad thing about oral nystatin is that they add sugar to it to make it palatable. What does yeast feed on? That's why i prefer Gentian Violet and GSE (graprfruit seed extract.) You should alos go tot a health food store and get some probiotics, which help your body balance its natural flora so that yeast doesn't take over.

Gentian violet works very well, but some people prefer Nystatin because GV is so messy and can stain clothing, etc.

the nystatin should work.. but if you are more comfortable w/ gentian violet and had better results then go ahead I've seen lots of babies use the nystatin with great results !

Nystatin

My son had that (thrush) when he was a few months old and that medicine cleared it up in a few days.
Just put the medicine in the dropper and place it in your baby's jaw, you should do it slowly cause he/she will be trying to spit it up cause it dosen't taste good at all.

Good luck and hope the thrush clears up
