I would like to buy my gas from just a place like that. I heard "Marathon" is American owned, but I would just like to make sure. Can anyone help?

To answer one of the answer's quetions...Yes, I guess it is better to get screwed by an AMERICAN, rather than a foreigner! We, (as AMERICANS), have it done to us every day, but I would rather put money in the pocket of a fellow AMERICAN, than in the pocket of a foreigner!

If there are, they'd probably be very small companies.

Citgo is owned by the Venezuelan government. BP Amoco is basically the British government now.

Even the publicly held gas companies that are listed on the New York Stock Exchange are owned by so many investors that they can be termed American because they have corporate headquarters in America, but they may be owned by individuals in any number of companies.

And there can't be any gas companies that still get all of their oil from America, as America doesn't produce enough gas to come close to providing enough of a supply. Americans who import from the middle east aren't a lot different from Britons who import from the middle east.

Most gas companies are publicly owned, so it would be unlikely that all the stockholders would be American. Marathon Oil is a publicly traded company, though it is based in the United States (unlike many others, such as Royal Dutch Shell and BP).

Sorry to break it to you but there is no real corporation that is completely American. Welcome to the age of the globalized economy!
