i was in a car wreck almost a month ago..and amongst other things, ended up with 4 broken ribs.and they are the smaller ones at the top..3 on 1 side, and 1 on the other side..has anyone ever experienced this, and how long does this "popping"noise last, when you breathe..it's totally agravating to me,sometimes,i'm awake all night, because of it..and they hurt more now, then they did a few weeks ago..is that normal? my doctor says it takes at least 6 weeks, for them to repair themselves.it's been 3and a half weeks..is there any comfort in sight??????????

Gotta wait it out, hun. I know it sucks. Bed rest and maybe your doc could give you a pain killer to help you with the pain at night. It hurting more now is normal. It's almost like a cut on your arm itching like crazy when it's healing. As long as you aren't doing ANYTHING strenuous, you'll be alright. Let the ribs run their healing course. Now if you start SUDDENLY having a hard time breathing after doing something so mundane as getting up, then call your doctor or if he's unavailable get to an emergency room for x-rays. Because of the fact they're ribs you don't want to do anything to rebreak the healing process because then fragments will hit your lungs...
I hope this helps.

Oh how painful they are ! I know I broke only 2 on my lower left side which punctured the pleural lining between my lungs and chest wall giving me pleurisy which is very painful . After 3 years mine still click when lying down but the pain is gone . The clicking only happens when lying on my back though or if breathing really hard from exertion. So for me I don't feel they ever did heal up completely and wonder if its going to happen at all after so long . But the pain is gone which is most important .

It takes time. And keep them wrapped tightly. Just not so tight to cut off circulation. It's miserable bit it will get better with time.
Good Luck, Darlin
