In the western world, in particular in medieval Europe, the dragon was associated with the adversary, the Devil, perhaps because of references in the book of Revelations.
In China, the symbol is actually beneficial. The Chinese dragon represents the Chinese people themselves. It is a mix of symbols from different mythical animals arising from different people who eventually merged to form the Chinese people.

What do you mean meaning? as in symbol? It represents different things in different cultures. It the western culture it is associated with paganism, demons, and villiany. In the east it is a symbol of good fortune, youth, and power. In litature, it is used as a symbol for all kinds of character and philosophical traits.
