Prilosec .. i take it your talking about the OTC version. Their are only a few side effects of prilosec stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, cough back pain. Most people have no side effects from this medication. As for an over dose I would only recommend 1 tablet a day as it says on the box unless otherwise told by a doctor. Prilosec works well but it slow. Tum are the fastest for relief then zantac like products. hope this helps

Contrary to 'popular opinion', prilosec is a dangerous drug (as are all of the acid-inhibiting drugs). First, it impairs acid production which is critical for proper digestion and absorption of many nutrients, especially minerals (which are already inadequate in most American diets).

Second, recent research shows that it causes bacterial overgrowth in the upper part of the digestive system (this is called Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth - SIBO). This can lead to a myriad of 'unexplained' symptoms as these bugs compete for nutrients in your diet and release large amounts of toxic waste which is absorbed into your system.

If you are having problems with heartburn, it is best to find and fix the CAUSE of your problem. Sherry Rogers, M.D. has written an excellent book that explains the many causes of heartburn and how to properly fix them. It is called: "No More Heartburn". I highly recommend this book. It is available at Amazon.com.

Best wishes and good luck.
