I thought i had my period. It keeps coming on and off...every now and then...more gets on the toliet paper then it does the pads...so does that mean ive got my period...doesnt it have to be heavier then that? It goes away for hours at a time.....is this normal? and if it is how long should i bleed before its really a period? I havent had one in a year...and i dont ever remember one being like this?

Bleeding when on your period is generally not a steady flow. You might have a gush, then just lightly spot for a few hours, just to be heavier the next day. Generally a period lasts anywhere from 4-7 days. You can have shorter periods too. (But if you think you're pregnant, by all means, go to a Doctor now) The bad thing about using pads can make you have more on the toilet paper than the pad when you're not flowing a lot. That doesn't mean you're not having a heavy period, just not flowing so the blood tends to creep into the creases down there. That's why you change your pad often to clean yourself up. Tampons help in that case, but they stop the blood inside instead of out so that can lead to infection and lots of women get cramps often with tampons.
But with your problem, it you think you're pregnant, or seem to bleed longer than 6 days, make an appointment to see your doctor. Or of course it you are in a lot of pain (other than normal cramps) Other than that, your period seems normal. Good luck.

Well you could possibly be pregnant. I am 30 weeks pregnant and was having a spotting like period. I knew that was not normal for me. I was showing more blood when I wiped then on the pads. I took 4 home preg test and 3 showed up negitive till a the next month. I usually had a normal heavy period last 7 days for me. This in april was like end of a period dry blood and then the next 2 days was normal red blood but very light. So you might be good luck to you.

If your period is normally irregular, as you've said you haven't had one in a year & you're not on any type of birth control or other meds that would alter your cycle, then this may be normal for you. Since you are trying to get pregnant, wait a few days and take a home pregnancy test. Good Luck!

since you are trying to get pregnant i would go get one of those home pregnancy tests that should tell u something but no madder what the test says i would go see you re doc . for a couple of reasons 1 you could be pg and it be to Early to tell on the home tests. or 2 there could actually be something wrong that needs looking into by a Doctor .the best thing you can do is go see a Doctor......... good luck
