Traditions are passed on and the term god bless you is an affectionate thought being passed to a person who has sneezed, by way of the individuals religious beliefs. Did you know that a sneeze stops your heart , for as long as you keep sneezing.,.,.,just until the sneeze ends...

Back when the plague was around and killing everyone, it was common for someone to have noticable symptoms which included (a lot of ) sneezing. So, when someone saw another person sneeze, they would say "God bless you" because more than likely, the person sneezing had the plague and was going to die soon.

I've heard that you say God bless you to prevent bad spirits from entering your body when you breathe back in after a sneeze.
