get out of there and hope that nobody saw you and then pretend to be as outraged as everyone else when the bathroom gets flooded.

Go ahead and panic!
No, seriously, this has happened to me more than once!
It might overflow, but if the blockage isn't complete, it might flush on down right before overflowing. This usually happens. But it could be blocked enough to overflow on the next person. Tell your friend immediately and don't let anyone else use the toilet until your friend or his parents check things out!

I would wait around for a minute until the water level seeped back down a bit, and then plunge, or ask for a plunger if there wasn't one in there.

First I would try to find a toilet plunger, then I would go tell my friend that it was ready to flood and ask them where the plunger was so I could go fix it. I have done it before, and it was that way when I walked into the bathroom.

I wouldn't do anything at a friend's house that would stop up the toilet unless he/she was a really good friend! And if that was truly the case, they would totally understand that poo happens. HA HA

shut the valve. Speak to your friend privately and ask for a plunger. Someone is going to notice if you don't and Nobody wants to clean your mess to fess up and try and fix it.
