Traction control is not new. It's been around for years & is available (either as standard equipment, or as optional) on many vehicles from all manufacturers.

Too many to list.

Don't most cars have it these days? (my new subaru does)
The new thing that all the good SUVs have nowadays is called 'stability control' which essentially controlls throttle and brakes to prevent you from overcontrolling a vehicle so it doesn't Roll over. Rollovers were identified as a leading cause of fatalities in vehicles that were otherwise safe in non-rollover crashes.

In the old days (and traction control has been around since the 60's- on cars like the grand prix) it was done rather expensively with the rear differential, mechanically. Now- electronic sensors in the wheels detect wheel spin and use the already available anti-lock brake system to stop wheels from spinning and transfer power to the alternate wheel. Less expensive and every bit as effective (if not more so) than the old differential based design.

Uh, yes.

The Grand Prix was no where near being the first car with TC, and is the last car I'd expect to be known for it!

Many if not nearly all new cars have some for of Traction Control or Stability control. Everyone will call it something different, but its there.

All traction control does is prevent you from spinning your wheels thus preventing you from *loosing* *traction* providing a safer driving experience.

ASM's or active stability management systems however vary a lot from one make to the next. Most include some system of controlling all four brakes individually, in order to keep the car straight and controllable when it begins to spin or slide.

The traction control takes power away from the wheels when they start to slip or spin. It can help a lot on snow covered or icy roads. I have always liked Grand Prixs my first car was a 1997 Gt and I replaced it this year with an 06' Gt. As for the cd player noise I have no idea what is causing that.

Alot of car makers have some sort of traction control for their vehicles. It is called different things for different companies.

I believe Subaru was the first company to come up with traction control. They call it All Wheel Drive.

Higher end cars like Volvos, Saabs, BMW and Mercedes all have traction control.

Most Minivans have traction control.

Almost all GM cars have it, as well as most automakers too. GM was in fact the first automaker to feature this (as with all saftey features seen on cars).
