hmmmm.... well having a star wars geek and expert as my brother I should know this. I think they shocked him with some sort of shocking machine. probably some futuristic space torture. either that or George Lucas just wanted to have you imagine something horrible.

I got a book on this actual scene. The Machine contained several torture devices. The first one was two sets of exposed wires aimed at his face to burn him and simulate soldering without a helmet on or something. It also contained several needles to keep him from passing out if the shocks stunned him too much. One more thing it contained was tubes at the top of the machine that contained the Liquid that kept him from passing out. It was all held up with a bunch of paper clips and glitter basically. Although, the gist of all of it, was to test him and see if he could survive the carbon freezing process that occurred right after the torture. Also, the machine was suppose to torture him because he hadn't payed jab a the hut his money, that he has owed him in the movie for 6 years. Fader just watched solo presumably until he had enough, then he walked out and argued with boba fett, and lando calrissian.

he was used to test the machine actually. Darth Vader wanted to use the machine to capture Luke Skywalker and bring Luke to the Emperor in that state. it was a carbonation machine that would encase the subject in a carbon state. similar to a deep freeze without killing the person. Han actually, in that state, wouldn't age and it could save years on a person's life.

How can you guys not know. When they caught him Vader "freezed" him in carbonite or sumtin like that. Then he was given to Jabba the Hut and u should know rest of story. Anymore Star Wars questions?
