Any good hiking boot should be suitable. The main thing you want to look for is the sole! I made the mistake once of wearing cowboy boots (the only kind of boots I owned) to Madison, Wisconsin in the winter. I fell on my butt too many times to think about. If it is going to be cold and icy, you've got to have anti-skid soles on your boots.

Your question doesn't have much detail, but if you live somewhere where the temps get extremely cold.. I would definately recommed the brand Helly Henson.. Very warm and comfortable. My cousin used them when he worked on the rigs in winter!
