If you happen to be driving a 1990 Toyota Supra Turbo with a bad CPS you will:

Be able to crank, but not start it.

It will die at random.

It will die at stops often.

When it dies it will crank but not start back up.

And you can hit the CPS with a heavy wrench to solve any of these situations temporarily.

Thats my experience, will prob be similar with your car, but I couldn't tell you its location on the dodge 2.7.

*Physically, what you'll be looking for is probably a larger (wallet sized) flat sensor with two or more screws/bolts holding it down, atleast one will be adjustable so you can slightly twist the sensor one way or another and re-tighten it. Inside it should be just a small gear that is driven off the cam gear or an extension there of. I would look for it on the belt-side of the valve covers.

Well, I don't have cams. But, I assume the cam sensor tells the computer the orientation of the pistons, so the computer can fire the fuel injectors and spark plugs at the right times. That would explain why it wont run sometimes. Changing it should be easy, un-plug, un-bolt. Replacing may be more difficult, you'll probably have to align the #1 cyl to TDC and set the position sensor to its default position before installing. Then probably time the engine. That's assuming the cam sensor is similar to a crank angle position sensor. Buy the manual before anything else.

I think you mean "Crankshaft position sensor" This sensor tells the plugs when to fire based on when the pistons are in the compression cycle. The cam is pretty must positioned by the timing belt or chain. if the belt fails or the chain tensioner fails engine damage could result if your engine valves do not clear the pistons.
