I have an Ibanez amp that came in a starter pack I got a while back. The gain on it is incredible and is the best I've heard on a small practice amp. What are some other good amps for around the $100-$200 price range. I like the one I have but my friend Tim needs the a good, cause he plays alot. The thing he really cares about is the Gain. What cheap amps come with good gain?

100 amps is a lot if all your major appliances are gas. I have a house like yours, gas heat, hot water and stove with 100 A service. I added electric heat in two rooms, a home office with 2 computers, 2 freezers, 2 refrigerators, 2 microwave ovens, a pool and an electrically heated spa—power to spare because they aren’t all on at the same time. Changing to a 200-A panel means changing the wires from your house to the utility pole, a much more expensive proposition than just changing the panel, size not withstanding. The biggest energy consumer in a home is heat, followed, in order, by your hot water heater, stove, clothes drier and A/C. Unless you are changing your furnace to electric, you will never need 200 A.

If you can find an old Peavey ACE or Peavey DEUCE, they really have MONSTER gain. Way more bang for the bucks than any other I've seen.

These are good pawn shop/flea market/yard sale finds - I mean, I've got some good, classic amps, including a '65 Bandmaster, but these things will tear down the walls.

If you are gonna play, take pride and spend some money on quality equipment. Even if you are a beginner. If you have good equipment then your enjoyment level increases, If you enjoy it more you play more the more you play the better you get so on and so forth.
